The
simple way to create
your
presence on the
web
Building a website is a collaborative process between you
and Simple Presence. You tell us your preferences and
provide the content material, and we turn it into an
elegant, professional-looking website. It sounds simple,
and it is!
Step One -
Style & Layout
Consider how you would like
your website to look and feel. Take a look at some of our
sample pages or existing sites to get some ideas. Browse
the web and make a note of some of the design elements that
you like and don't like in other people's websites.
What
style of website would you like?
• clean & minimal (like this one!)
• professional, business-like
• personal, friendly, informal
• arty, funky, imaginative
How
many sections will you need, and what will the section
headings be? Don't create more than you
really need. We recommend a maximum of seven distinct
sections for most sites. Some content might work better in
a subsection.
What
colour scheme would you prefer? If you're not sure, but you
have one or two favourite colours that you would like to
incorporate - tell us, and we'll do the rest.
Once you have a general idea of the above - go on to the
next step.
Step Two -
Content
Create a folder on your
computer desktop and start gathering your site content. You
will need to supply us with all the text along with any
images and graphics you would like us to include in your
site.
Text can be supplied in a document file (e.g. Word doc.) or
in an email. We use only recognized web-safe fonts which
will be readable on virtually any browser and operating
system. Fancy fonts are generally best avoided, but if you
have a particular favourite, let us know and we'll see
whether it can be incorporated.
Images should be saved in high quality jpeg or gif format
and can be sent as email attachments or on a CD. If you
have images in other formats, we can most likely convert
them provided they are of sufficiently high quality. Don't
clutter your site with images - it will take much longer
for your pages to load and will deter your vistors. We
recommend a small number of good quality images which are
relevant to the content of your site. If necessary we will
resize your images to the optimum for each page.
Please make
sure you are the copyright owner of any text and graphics
that you supply to us.
Step Three -
Domain Name
If
you don't already have a domain name for your website, you
will need to choose one that suits the type of business,
interest, product or service that your site is designed to
promote. If you need help coming up with a suitable name,
just ask. This name has to be registered,
which means you have bought the exclusive right to use it
for a specified period (usually one or two years). You can
register the name yourself if you wish, or we can take care
of it for you. Once your name has been registered, we will
link it to your site so that your presence on the web can
be located. Please note that if you register the domain
yourself, you will be responsible for renewing the name
before it expires. Failure to do so could result in your
name being taken up by someone else.
Step Four -
Choose Your Package
When you are ready to get started, contact us with a brief
outline of your requirements and choose the package that
best suits your needs. If you're not sure and need help
deciding, just ask and we'll answer any questions you may
have. If you decide to go ahead, we will send you a simple
agreement and request a deposit payment of £50. The balance
will be payable in full on completion of your website.
Our
Guarantee
We guarantee to have your website completed within
twenty-one days following receipt of your deposit payment,
and all relevant text and graphics. If, due to delays on
our part, we cannot complete your site on time, we will
deduct fifty percent from your final invoice
payable.
